High-Precision Nickel Plating Filtration: 200 L/min, 9+ Months Leak-Free, Annual Savings
How a Thai electroplating facility eliminated frequent filter blockage, solution leakage, and coating defects by switching to PPH all-plastic filters with longer filter element life
Meibao electroplating filters provide stable filtration performance and excellent corrosion resistance, with very little leakage during continuous circulation. The high-density filter element effectively removes fine impurities from the plating solution, while the all-plastic flow path provides long-term resistance to acid corrosion. Compared with other brands we have tried, they offer longer filter element life, require much less maintenance, and significantly reduce production downtime caused by solution deterioration.

How a Thai electroplating facility eliminated frequent filter blockage, solution leakage, and coating defects by switching to PPH all-plastic filters with longer filter element life Customer Testimonial
Act 1: The Challenge —— Impurity Buildup, Frequent Leakage, and Falling Yield
Background
Bangkok Precision Electroplating Co., Ltd. is a precision electroplating company in Thailand. Its nickel plating line uses nickel sulfate solution (200 g/L, pH 3.8–4.5, operating temperature 55°C) to plate metal parts.
The cleanliness of the plating solution is a key factor in coating quality. Metal impurities brought in by workpieces, residues from pre-treatment, and fine particles produced by anode dissolution during plating must be continuously removed by filtration. Otherwise, they can cause rough coatings, pinholes, poor adhesion, and other defects. The customer has 10 electroplating lines, each equipped with one filter, operating continuously around the clock to keep the plating solution clean.
However, this seemingly well-established process had become one of the most troublesome sources of downtime on the entire production line.
Detailed Pain Points
The customer's previous filters had several problems that were difficult to solve:
- Short Filter Element Life: Filtration performance was unstable and the filter elements clogged quickly, with an average replacement cycle of only 2–3 weeks. Frequent replacement increased consumable and labor costs
- Frequent Leakage: Filter housings and seals gradually aged in the acidic plating solution, causing 3–6 leakage incidents per year. Lost plating solution created direct material losses and contaminated the workshop floor
- Downtime Losses: Every filter element replacement or leakage repair required the production line to stop. Total annual downtime reached 12 days, equal to more than 2 weeks of lost production each year
- Unstable Yield: Changes in filtration performance caused unstable coating quality, increasing defective products and customer complaints
- Fast Equipment Aging: Metal or non-all-plastic housings gradually corroded in the acidic plating solution. Average filter life was only 2 years, with an annual total cost of $800 per set
Highlight Box — Root Cause Analysis
Root Causes
1. Insufficient Filtration Performance: The filter element density or material was not suitable, allowing fine metal impurities to pass through and causing the plating solution to deteriorate faster
2. Poor Corrosion Resistance: The previous filter used a non-all-plastic housing. Metal parts and seals gradually corroded in the acidic plating solution, leading to leakage
3. High Impurity Load: Nickel plating naturally produces anode sludge and organic breakdown products. The amount of impurities generated was higher than the filter element could handle
4. Incorrect Filter Change Cycle: The filter replacement cycle did not match the actual impurity load. The filter elements became saturated too quickly, increasing labor and downtime
5. A Negative Cycle: Poor filtration → impurity buildup in the plating solution → coating defects → rework or scrap → higher costs → continued problems

Act 2: The Solution —— PPH All-Plastic Filter + High-Density Filter Element
Solution Approach
The customer's main problem appeared to be "filter leakage," but a deeper analysis showed that leakage was only the visible symptom. The real causes were poor corrosion resistance of the filter housing, unreliable sealing, and insufficient filter element performance and service life.
What the customer really needed was a filter that could provide:
- No Leakage: All-plastic flow path + reliable sealing structure to prevent leakage
- Strong Corrosion Resistance: PPH material suitable for long-term contact with nickel sulfate solution
- High Filtration Performance: High-density filter elements to consistently capture fine metal impurities
- Longer Filter Element Life: A design matched to the actual impurity load to extend the replacement cycle
Based on this analysis, we recommended the MF-2018 Electroplating Filter, featuring a PPH all-plastic flow path, high-density filter element, and compact integrated design, specifically developed for continuous plating solution filtration.

Results
Since installation and commissioning were completed in October 2025, 10 MF-2018 electroplating filters have operated on the customer's production lines for more than 9 months. During this period, all filters have achieved zero leakage and zero downtime:
- Filtration Performance: High-density filter elements consistently remove fine metal impurities and organic contaminants from the plating solution, keeping the filtered solution clean and filtration performance stable
- Coating Yield: Plating solution cleanliness remained stable, while defects such as pinholes and rough coatings were significantly reduced. The customer reported a clear improvement in coating quality and consistency
- Filter Element Life: The filter replacement cycle increased from 2–3 weeks to 8–10 weeks, reducing consumable costs by more than 60%
- Workshop Conditions: The all-plastic flow path operates without leakage, keeping the workshop floor dry and clean and improving EHS management
Production Director Somsak Chai specifically noted that, compared with other brands the company had tried, Meibao filters offered longer filter element life and required much less maintenance. Production downtime caused by plating solution deterioration was also significantly reduced.
