What is the relationship between the filtration area and the processing capacity of a filter?

Processing capacity is directly proportional to filtration area at a given flow velocity. Larger filter area means higher throughput at the same face velocity. Standard design uses 0.5-2 m/min face velocity for liquid filtration. Double the area roughly doubles the flow capacity.
